PERSONAL COACHING

I work with high-performing, multipassionate people who spend most of their day focused on other people’s needs - clients, customers, patients as well as their partner and children - using a flexible, sustainable, proven, research-based coaching model.

Does this sound familiar?

You have the life everyone told you should want.

You have a career that brings financial success. You have a partner and children you love deeply. Maybe you’ve even got the house, the community, and the neighborhood you wanted. In many ways, you’ve got everything you asked for.

To the outside world, it looks like you’ve got it all together. And you’ve worked so hard to get there, so you want to believe that too. Sometimes you wish that burning desire in you, that longing, for something more would just go away.

Because you know what you’d hear from some people if you signaled something is off. “But look at what you have - you have so much to be thankful for” or “Most people would give anything for what you’ve got.” You don’t want to worry your partner or your kids.

So you stay stuck, and, in many ways, alone. You’ve been playing the game of faking it til you make it, pushing through, sucking it up and dealing, walking on eggshells, pushing it down, warding off the zombie horde, and letting it go that you’re not even sure what you want.

Yet the fire is still there. The fire that burns for that thing that is missing in the midst of all of this “success.”  It won’t die. Yet you’re not sure exactly what it is.

what matters?

If you think about it, you realize that you never truly chose what mattered to you.

While you were climbing the ladder of all of those ordered steps (undergrad, grad school, etc.) and wading through the swamp of paying your dues, you never stopped to think about what really, truly deeply mattered to you.

And the fire keeps burning - so bright it hurts. From that light, you can see that the facade is cracking in that perfect life.

At work, you’re work focuses on meeting the needs of other people. There are clients or colleagues who get to you more than they used to. You notice yourself checking out in client or staff meetings, letting people go on and on when you know you need to redirect, or getting defensive with clients who don’t follow your recommendations. You used to love the client work, and now sometimes it just feels draining and exhausting.

When you come home, there are more people who need you. You’re rocketing towards burnout or you’re already there.

At home, you often feel disconnected from your partner. You have no time together. It’s all about the kids and the to-dos. You argue more than you’d like - usually over misunderstandings and miscommunication. It’s like an endless basket of mismatched socks. A quarterback who can’t ever find the receiver. It’s not terrible, but it’s not satisfying.

And your kids are struggling in some ways that are hard to watch. You love them so much. Sometimes you notice you’ve got a hair trigger for small things. You can jump to conclusions, assume, or criticize so quickly you can’t catch yourself. You look around at other families, and you keep thinking you’ve done something wrong.

And when it comes down to it, the emotion isn’t really anger. That’s a headfake. It’s fear - that powerful, primal fear that comes along with parenting. Fear that they’re not going to be ok. That you aren’t or weren’t there enough for them. That they’re going to be left behind.
You know that deep down that built for so much more - more freedom, flexibility, flow, and even fun. You want to be inspired and inspire others, so that you can change the world and your part of it that matters so much to you.

What got you here won’t get you there.

So what’s the solution?

You’ve tried listening to podcasts, reading books, maybe even therapy or coaching, but nothing has worked.

What if I told you that the problem isn’t you. There is nothing wrong with you or your family. It’s most likely your process.

You likely didn’t have a research-proven framework or a change partner who is ride-or-die, got your six committed. Snippets of self-help here, or there or a coach that doesn’t get, it isn’t going to get you there.

The way you learn to change is taking one step, and then another, and then another until it snowballs into momentum. A big part of the fuel for that is your WHY. Walking your why helps make your actions count.

Hi, i’m dr. jan newman

I’m an expert in human performance and behavior and relationship change who brings almost fifteen years of experience.

I’ve helped hundreds of high-performers get results, serious training and knowledge in powerful research based strategies, behavioral psychology, and neuroscience, my certification in performance coaching, my PhD in psychology, and the real-world pragmatism that comes from being a corporate BIGLAW attorney to bring you something totally revolutionary.

I designed my signature 1:1 coaching program to help high-achieving, multi-passionate professionals get unstuck and pivot with confidence to find more freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment in work and life.

I've used this framework to help heavy-hitting, go-getting, high-performing professionals, for…

C-suite executives, lawyers, physicians and other healthcare professionals, NCAA and professional athletes, and tons of entrepreneurs

create the momentum for meaningful and lasting change

It can work for you too.

There are a lot of "coaches" out there, so I want to be crystal clear on something.

I use a research-based framework. It does not involve some New Age, woo-woo, count to 10, BS. I have a PhD and a JD.

BS is NOT how I roll.

It does involve hard-core cognitive and behavioral science you can use as a compass for your life and work.

If you’re game, I will teach you the how (to do it) stone cold and to the fullest of my ability. That will mean a blend of performance coaching, consulting and training (yes, we would do real plays of that conversation with your most difficult client or your partner), and some co-inspiring.

There’s my secret. You’ve got me. As much as I’m obsessed with inspiring my clients and helping them get results, my clients are amazing and inspire me every single day. Right now, you have everything you need on the what and the why. I bring the how, yet I know that there’s a wonderland of strengths in you that we’re going to leverage for full-tilt 360 degree change.

You will get the best results if you bring the willingness to uptake knowledge and practice outside of session.

Warning - this practice is not just going to be a few written exercises or reading a book.

We’re going to help you have that difficult conversation, negotiate that deal, or make that pitch.

I've used this framework to help heavy-hitting, go-getting, high-performing professionals – like Fortune 500 C-Suite executives, law firm partners, surgeons and other physicians, NCAA and professional athletes, and tons of entrepreneurs – create the momentum for meaningful and lasting change. It can work for you too.

Here’s How It Works

Your coaching experience is unlike any other. On a monthly basis, you will meet virtually with me for strategic and action-focused coaching.

Most clients meet with me bi-weekly for 60-minutes (that is, 2x/month), but some clients prefer a different cadence starting out for a month weekly to jumpstart momentum and then shifting to biweekly.

The sessions are recorded so you can deepen the lessons through repetition of the coaching session at your convenience.

We will work together to clarify your goals and work on a strategic action plan to help you target your focus, align your actions with your values, and measure and monitor your progress towards your goals.

Depending on your goals and needs, we may decide that out-of-session practice through reading and/or written or experiential practice would be helpful.

If we are working on skills like setting and holding boundaries or effective listening or negotiation, we may spend time doing “real” play situations.

I administer baseline assessments to all clients, and we monitor progress regularly. I’m a data nerd and believe that to truly understand progress, it should be measured. That old saying from my stats professor in my PhD program, “If it can’t be measured, it doesn’t exist.”

You'll also have bi-weekly accountability and progress check-ins with me via Voxer and email. Unlimited email or Voxer support is also included as needed. This is an investment where you will feel more seen, heard, understood and encouraged than anywhere else in your life, and where change happens.

What others are saying…

I need a heavy-hitter…I need a real ass-kicker… a high-performance Coach who is authentic, caring, experienced, has all the credentials/certifications and is results-driven.
At first, I was a bit skeptical because I had never worked with a High-Performance Coach before.

After the first four sessions, I was amazed at how much we accomplished together.
I would recommend Jan to any high-performer seeking help to remove roadblocks, clarify what is important to them in life, and apply proven, systematic processes to improve areas and aspects of their life.

Jan is an incredibly gifted coach who can help you in many ways – from identifying your areas where you are blocked to applying the ACT and other processes and tools to help you make positive forward progress.
— Corey W. | Entrepreneur
Jan is insightful, funny, honest, and relatable. She really cares about her clients and genuinely wants what’s best for them. Jan understands the stresses and struggles of the legal profession, having been part of it for years. She is personable, friendly, and empathetic. She helps you see things from a different perspective and provides feedback as needed.
— STACIE, LAW FIRM ADMINISTRATOR
When I was thinking about leaving a “secure position” with a group private practice, Jan was a voice that was grounding, supportive, and nurturing the courage that I knew that I had within. Throughout my journey of developing my own practice, she guided me to reflect on my own personal values to continue fostering my vision of what I truly want for myself.

In addition to Jan’s words of validation, she provided me with concrete questions and actions to take, including resources to which to refer and read. Jan’s humanity, kindness, and encouragement is evident in every conversation that one has with her, and I am immensely grateful to have her bolster me through both an intimidating and life-changing experience.
— DR. CHARNIN, PSYCHOLOGIST & ENTREPRENEUR
Dr. Jan Newman is an expert on work-life integration. As a fellow therapist and colleague in the consulting and coaching space, I’ve seen how Jan supports professionals as she brings together her knowledge and lived experiences as an attorney, psychologist, parent, and professional pivoter herself into her work with her clients. There, she supports her clients through a structured, intensive, and immersive coaching program. If you’re an attorney, executive, therapist, or professional who is done with being stuck and wants the steps to move right into action, Jan will coach you so you can get unstuck into action with a clear roadmap.

  • This program is best suited for high-achieving, high-performing, multi-passionate individuals who spend most of their day meeting the needs of clients, customers, or patients and are in a partnered relationship and/or have children. Many of my clients are single parents.

They are feeling overwhelmed and close or already there with burnout. At the same time, they know they were meant for so much more and are hungering more from life and their relationships at work and at home. They’ve obtained the external measures of success - high grades, more zeroes, the right house, or neighborhood - which have often been the proxy for their self-worth.

But now they’ve realized life is too short to just keep “pushing through” and sucking it up and dealing.

Although they’ve always loved working with and being around clients and customers, now they notice moments of feeling stuck, checked out, and unchallenged. At other times, there’s anxiety that their “off” their A-game or not delivering. Other times, there’s moments of anxiety, frustration, or resentment that they’re trying to suppress or compartmentalize to push through.

They’re tired of self-help books and podcasts that use gimmicks, mantras, and fluff but never deliver. They’re ready for a powerful, sustainable, research-based framework that they can put on rinse and repeat to get what they need and create their best lives.

They’re hungry for a change and for learning powerful tools for habit change and communication to change their lives and influence others.

They contain extremely private information to you. It’s recommended that you only store these on an encrypted system with password protection.

  • Absolutely! We can discuss that further to make sure that your needs are met.

  • You could also consider my group programs.

At this time, you could also put your name on the waitlist for my group program coming this fall.

I am also planning a group training program for coaches in 2023. You can put your name on the waiting list here.

  • Unfortunately, no. Although I am a trained psychologist, I can only function in one role or the other at a time. And it must be crystal clear which role I’m in. If you choose coaching with me, I can’t ever work with you in a therapeutic role.

If your symptoms are being managed fully by a psychologist or other mental health care professional and are not causing the problems you’re coming to coaching for, then we can discuss working together. It typically requires that you provide a two-way release for me to speak to your provider upfront and then throughout our coaching work.

  • I only take a limited number of 1:1 clients, and my schedule is challenging. I can typically offer you a few options, but given how my schedule works, we will have to decide on a set time that we do. I’m typically booked out for 6 months.
